MATERIAL APPLICATION
Cocoa powder Screening
Plan cocoa powder screening around fat content, cohesion, agglomeration and the target particle fraction.
Distinguish powder screening from husk separation
Cocoa powder, nibs and husk-containing fragments are different feed materials. A powder check screen may target soft lumps or foreign oversize; a husk separation task may require properties that a size-only screen cannot distinguish. Explain the actual feed rather than using cocoa as the entire specification.
Agree the evaluation and its limits
Fat content, temperature and cohesive behaviour can change how powder reaches and covers the mesh. Record the material condition during an agreed trial. Do not transfer a husk-removal result to fine cocoa powder or assume that an enclosed screen resolves every dust or hygiene risk.
Information for this material enquiry
Prepare the following material-specific information before a configuration is proposed.
- Powder, nibs or husk-containing feed
- Observed lumping, temperature and handling history
- Rejected material description and target particle cut
Shortlist a screening route for this duty
| Material task | Candidate / next decision | Why this boundary matters |
|---|---|---|
| Powder check screening | Compare S49 and WSQ | Fat/temperature, feed distribution and acceptable agglomerate changes |
| Several powder fractions | Review YB where the material can be graded | Measure particle distribution and product retained in each stream |
| Nibs or husk-containing feed | Define a separate separation task | Size alone may not distinguish husk from valuable product |
