MATERIAL APPLICATION
Spices Screening
Plan spices screening around particle shape, oil content, aroma/product changeover and the desired cut size.
Separate cut size from spice identity
Ground pepper, fibrous herbs and mixed seasonings have different shapes and handling behaviour. A spice name does not define a sieve cut. Describe fibrous or elongated particles, oiliness and agglomerates; explain whether the intended product should retain these components.
Agree the evaluation and its limits
Product changeovers can involve odour, colour and allergen carry-over. Include inspection and cleaning access in the equipment review. A result from one ground spice should not be quoted as the expected output for another blend without comparable material and conditions.
Information for this material enquiry
Prepare the following material-specific information before a configuration is proposed.
- Ground or whole feed and approximate particle distribution
- Oiliness, fibres and blend components
- Changeover, cleaning and allergen-control requirements
Shortlist a screening route for this duty
| Material task | Candidate / next decision | Why this boundary matters |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign oversize in a ground ingredient | Compare S49 and WSQ | Whether rotor action or dispersion changes the intended ingredient |
| Fibrous or irregular particles needing grades | Review YB or linear SZF | Shape/orientation and acceptable retained fibres, not just mesh count |
| Repeated restriction of a fine screen | Diagnose before considering ultrasonic assistance | Oily deposits and moisture may need a different correction |
Prepare the comparison and sample request
